On the Waterfront in Southern Spaces

In March, 2014, the Documentary and Oral History Studio’s first textual and video publication appeared in the online peer-reviewed journal Southern Spaces, produced at Emory University. This collaborative project saw Loyola undergraduates conduct interviews with long-time members of the International Longshoremen’s Association Local 3000 in New Orleans to document life on the city’s waterfront in the era before changes in port automation transformed labor on the docks. You can read an essay by Dr. Nystrom and see the ten-minute short feature edited from these student interviews on Southern Spaces.
